Dear Destin Elementary families and community,
No Foolin'- it's already April!!!
Field days were a big success in March with the most beautiful weather! Thank you to all who helped organize, run and cheer on the kids! The teachers did an amazing job teaching sportsmanship and making sure their areas were all cleaned up. The parents pitched in big bringing tents, snacks and drinks and the coaches and PTO were behind all of the organization. We were extremely proud of all of the kids who cheered on each other and even other classes and showed such maturity and class while having fun! Way to go!
April is the month of the military child! Students with family members in the military are invited to bring their family members to our annual "Muffins with our Military" on April 15th in our cafeteria from 8:45-9:45. Teachers will be sending home invitations to students with military family members. If you do not receive an invitation to RSVP, please let your teacher know so they can get you one! This is PURPLE UP day so everyone is encouraged to wear your purple on April 15th in honor of all of our military branches!
Our 4th grade FAST writing assessment is on April 1st and our May testing calendar is set. We kindly ask that you make every effort to have your child present on their scheduled testing days. Being at school on testing days helps students stay on track and avoids the need for make-up assessments. If students arrive at school late, after a test has begun, they cannot be admitted to the classroom for testing that day. Eat a healthy breakfast, get a good night's sleep and above all else help your child with a positive growth mindset! In April, we will be kicking off "Pod Power" which is a program designed and led by Mr. Telatovich and Mrs. Duhon to promote positive attitudes and excitement toward FAST/Star testing. We are working as a team (pod) to show how much we have all learned this school year- your child will be learning positive self-talk, test taking strategies and reviewing information in a fun and supportive format!
We are looking forward to our Glow Dance on April 10th and our Talent Show at the end of the month as well!
Our 2nd graders have a musical performance, we have spring pictures, LOTS of field trips and Culver's is supplying ice cream for all students and staff to kickoff testing in May.
With so much going on, be sure to check out the April Dolphin Report and keep an eye on news from your child's teacher, our FB page and this live newsletter for updates!
Thank you for being a supporter of DES and helping us be the best school around! We value all of our families and community members that do so much for us!
Warmest regards,
Amy Meyer
