Fort Walton Beach High School (FWBHS), proud home of the Vikings, serves the diverse communities of southern Okaloosa County, including Destin, Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach, Mary Esther and Hurlburt Field. Currently, there are 1,647 students enrolled in grades nine through twelve. We have a strong commitment to providing the foundation for our students to be successful in the world beyond high school. We are committed to educating the whole student in academics, fine arts, athletics and community service.
At FWBHS, our vision is to inspire a lifelong passion for learning.
Our mission is to prepare all students to achieve excellence by providing the highest quality education while empowering each individual to positively impact their families, communities, and the world, and we accomplish this by building relationships with our students, parents, and community.
There is nothing better than being a Viking!
At Fort Walton Beach High School our students and staff make us and the community proud every single day. We have housed the top academic student in the county for multiple years and were recognized as a high performing high school by Governor Rick Scott and Newsweek Magazine. We are the only school in Okaloosa County that has a Project Lead the Way Biomedical Sciences program. We have students attending Cornell, Military Academies, William and Mary, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and St. Andrews in Scotland. Additionally, we are home to a Wendy's High School Heisman winner, the All Sports Association Female and Male Scholastic Award winners and a State of Florida Teacher of the Year finalist. We have students achieving industry certifications in drafting, Biomedical Sciences, and Information Technology and have millions of dollars in scholarships awarded to students every year. Our boys and girls cross country teams and our boys swim and dive team are currently district champions. Our Leadership program is a 4 time Gold Medallion recipient and is the winner of Community Service Project of the Year in Florida. We are home to three NFL players, an award winning cheerleader program, and a band program that has received top ratings for 44 years. Our school spirit flows from Panama City Beach, Florida to Pensacola, Florida which earned us the Florida High School Athletic Association's Sunshine State Spirit Showdown winner and our school principal was awarded the Principle of Principal award. The many accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff are a true reflection of a school where all students are known and valued. Although we have many great things going on at FWBHS, we do want to work on increasing our communication with our parents on student academic successes and struggles. This is an area we have consistently been addressing by more frequent posts on our social media pages, sending out a weekly newsletter via email, keeping our school webpage current, and frequently reminding teachers to be contacting parents when students are struggling academically and/or socially.
AFJROTC cadets performed over 2300 hours of community service at seventy four various community events. For the fourth year in a row we have earned the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Distinguished Unit Award. Our senior class cadets are now attending the United States Air Force Academy, enrolled in ROTC at the college level, and serving in the Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Navy Reserve. FWBHS offers over 40 various clubs and organizations for students to get involved with the student body and the community. FWBHS offers 20 different athletic programs for students to participate in.
