NWF State College students stand out at Florida Theatre Conference

Florida Theatre Conference students

Theater students from Northwest Florida State College distinguished themselves at the Florida Theatre Conference Nov. 5-8 in Gainesville. The FTC is an annual event that showcases student academic and theatrical achievements. Universities from Florida and throughout the Southeast use FTC to recruit high school and state college students for their programs based upon auditions and interviews.

NWF State College had two vocalists, Sean Royal and Tristan Allen, who, after auditioning, got callbacks from 19 and 17 universities, respectively. The universities use the callbacks to find out more about prospective students and whether they would be a good fit in the program. Having this many callbacks is unusual.

The remaining students, all involved in technical theater, also excelled. Of the nearly 40 tech theater students statewide, those from NWF State College were considered by many colleges and universities to be the most prepared and most skilled. Nearly all of the students received on-the-spot interviews and inspection of their work portfolios. They also received an open invitation to present their portfolios at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in March. The tech theater students who attended are Dakota Blankenship, Malcolm Brodie, Logan Clinkingbeard, John McCullough, Lydia Phillips and Olivia Rivera.
